Hi there, I'm Alexis. I'm your average person who enjoys friends, has a dog, and likes my neighborhood. And I also happen to be very, very good at creating unique experiences for others unlike anything else that is offered.
My desire to explore began before I can even remember, as it seems most of my memories growing up involve finding a tree to climb, a bush to make into a fort, or trying some other new activity of adventure. My adventurous spirit has stayed with me over the years, allowing me opportunities to explore the worlds of hiking, camping, rock climbing, mountain biking, kayaking, white water rafting, and just about any other outdoor activity you can think of.
Since moving to the Santa Cruz area with my furry dog Hobbes in 2014, I have taken the idea of local exploration to a new level. With the goal to discover something different within Santa Cruz every week, I have been busily finding all the hidden beauty which lies right at our doorsteps. As more and more spectacular places came about, I realized it was a shame more people didn’t know about the adventures and fun right here locally! At the same time I started discovering more hidden beauty in Santa Cruz, I also realized I often was trying to plan a climbing trip to Tahoe, or Joshua Tree, or camp somewhere in Yosemite, then would come back from the weekend exhausted and tired for the week ahead. I realized I didn't like feeling so exhausted, recouping during the week, then going back to adventuring out again on the weekend when right here, locally, there is literally more than enough here to get my nature crave satisfied! There is a lake surrounded by redwoods which makes me feel I'm at Tahoe; redwood forests people literally travel the world to see; and an ocean with whales, dolphins, sea otters, and more within walking distance of my house...and I didn't need to come home exhausted from the weekend to experience these things!
With my reawakening to the beauty right here in Santa Cruz, I also realized there were not nearly enough people enjoying these sites - mostly because they just didn't realize how accessible and available these adventures were. So began the Road Less Traveled. R.L.T gives people an opportunity to get away from the day-to-day bustle of being constantly connected, allowing for a rejuvenated mind and engaged body. While R.L.T is for all levels, my focus is to create semi-private, all inclusive, safe adventures for newcomers and beginners who would like to begin experiencing the outdoor adventure world. Have you always wanted to try mountain biking, kayaking, or off-the-trail paths but haven't gotten the opportunity to do so yet? Well, I can help you with that!
You will have a range of opportunities to watch deer in the meadows at sunset, ride a bike next to a mountain stream, or breath in the ocean air while paddling in a kayak. You may get wet, you may get a little bumpy on a trail, you may even get a little scared of the dark…but you will be safe while discovering brand new areas, and certainly have a fantastic time doing it! No longer is the world of mountain biking dominated by the hardcore gnarly riders only, we ALL have the opportunity to play on the trails, and I can share that with you.
I have over 12 years backpacking, camping, and hiking experience; 6 years of rock climbing; 8+ years teaching climbing; and years of kayak and mountain biking experience with some of the best instructors around - you, your friends, and your family are in safe and competent hands when you explore with R.L.T. I pride myself on being able to handle any situation which may arise, making sure you have a safe, enjoyable, and memorable introduction to your new favorite outdoor activity. Along with the nursing school background I have - the First Aid, CPR, and basic wilderness survival skills I have allows me the competency and confidence to make sure everyone is safe during our adventures. Review your options for fun, ask questions along the way, and most of all…Come Play!
